Chamdo

Introduction

Chamdo is located in eastern Tibet, tucked away in the Henduan Mountains and dissected by the Jinshajiang, Lancanjiang and Nujiang rivers, covers an area of 108,600 square km. On its eastern side lies sichuan, with yunnan to the south and Qinghai in the north. Now it administers 11 countries : Chamdo, Gyamda, gongjo, Riwoqe, Dingqen, Chagyab, Baxio, Zogang, Mangkang, Lhorong and Palbar, 13 districts, nine towns, 168 townships and 1622 administrative villages. 21 ethnic groups including tibetan, Han, Hui, Zhuang, Naxi, Lhoba, Monba, Bali live here. the total population is over 550,000, of which 98.26 % are Tibetan.
Chamdo has already become "ShangriLa" in the heart of the people. Chamdo is located in the East of Tibet. Here Himalayas mountains and Gandise mountains turn around. The integration of the cultures of Tibetan, Han, Naxi nationalities institute chamdo special Kang-ba Cultural Base. In Chamdo people can see the long history in the Damala Dimosaur-discovery field and Kane site, can feel the influence of diverse cultures of different traditions in such temples as Gama ancient temple and Yanjin Church. Chamdo is an insulated place, for hundreds of years people went west out of Tibet, went east into the west of Sichuan regarding the road across the mountains as a formidable one. Chamdo is a place with a lot of mountains, the people of Chamdo instinctively worship the nature, wish to live a life of Utopia, however it was only a dream in the past. today, the state invests a lot of money in the protecting of the forest rural-developing, education and health programs. The environmental of Chamdo, the living quietly of the people and the literacy of the people have improved remarkably. People of Chamdo loves the nature. They pray for a peaceful life from nature.

The main mine resources are copper, lead, zinc, arsenic, fluorite, limestone, plaster and salines, etc. Agriculture and animal husbandry are major economy styles. The percentage of forest coverage is 23.9 percent and the total wood stock volume is 30 million cubic meters.

Chamdo Town

Chambaling monastery founded in 1444 by one of Tsong Khapa's disciples. the Monastery lies at Chamdo town. Chambaling has hundreds of statues of Buddha's and great adapters, thousand square meters of murals, and magnificent Thangkas, which represent the highest artistic level in Kham. Monastery is full of religious dancing, characterized with ferocious and living masks, elegant postures, marvelous costumes and fabulous scenes.

Zezhol Monastery

The monastery is different with other monasteries since it is an important religious center of Tibet. The monastery lies at the foot of Zezhol Hill, 37 kms from Tingchen country. Monastery was rebuilt in the middle of the 14th century. History of the monastery can be tracked back to as far as 3,000 years ago. In Tibet the name of the monastery means Six Peaks due to its topography around. Zezhol is one of the few largest Bon Monasteries existing in Tibet, which still keeps many followers and most complete Bon religious rituals. The monastery still keeps a weird Bon religious tradition - naked group dancing.
